Showcasing the Region's Community Rail in the City

13

Mar 2012

Representatives from Community Rail Partnerships (CRP) around the Greater Anglia network came together to promote their work at London Liverpool Street Station last week.

The hard-working volunteers ran a stall from 0700 until 1900, encompassing the morning and evening rush hours, to raise the profile of the work of the Community Rail Partnerships in the region at one of the busiest stations in Europe.

Kirit Varsani, Greater Anglia’s Liverpool Street Station Manager said; “It was great to welcome representatives from the Community Rail Partnerships to Liverpool Street, raising the profile of the work they do to people in the City. Their enthusiasm was infectious and I’m sure more visitors and day-trippers will be encouraged to get out and about by train as a result of the event.”

Greater Anglia works in partnership with Community Rail Partnerships including:

  • The Essex and South Suffolk CRP (Manningtree – Harwich, Colchester – Clacton & Walton-on-the-Naze, Marks Tey – Sudbury, Witham  – Braintree, Battlesbridge – Southminster)
  • East Suffolk Lines CRP (Ipswich  –  Felixstowe / Ipswich – Lowestoft)
  • Wherry Lines CRP (Norwich – Great Yarmouth / Norwich – Lowestoft)
  • Bittern Line CRP (Norwich – Sheringham)

Working together the Community Rail Partnerships, train operator Greater Anglia and their partners in the region are promoting the many attractions the region has to offer, including the picturesque rural branch lines, to those wishing to enjoy an excursion or ‘staycation’ this year.

Jayne Sumner of the Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership said: “The Community Rail in the City event was a great success. It was marvellous to be able to promote our rural rail lines to so many people passing through the station, and encourage more people to explore the beautiful countryside East Anglia has to offer by rail.”
