Sunshine Coast Line

Colchester to Clacton and Walton-on-the-Naze

For the seaside resorts of Clacton, Frinton and Walton-on-the-Naze

Colchester Castle

From Colchester, the first Roman capital of Britain and oldest recorded town, head for the Sunshine Coast. The journey passes through the pretty riverside town of Wivenhoe, once the haunt of smugglers, and a good place to pause for lunch or a drink at a riverside inn. At Thorpe-le-Soken the line divides, heading south for the golden sandy beaches of lively Clacton, or straight on for Frinton-on-Sea with immaculate beaches and elegant high street. Walton-on-the-Naze is a big favourite with the children, with the country’s second longest pier and the cliff top walk on the grassy headland of the Naze.
