Abellio Greater Anglia is investing in providing additional seating capacity on Stansted Express trains on weekends from this Easter.

From Good Friday, 25 March 2016, most Stansted Express services between London Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport will be increased to eight coaches, thereby doubling the number of seats on the majority of services and creating over 40,000 additional seats each weekend.

The Stansted Express train service continues to grow in popularity, with weekends becoming an increasingly busy time for the train operator.

Rail passenger numbers were up over 20% in 2015 - to 4.7 million - with Stansted Express’s fast, frequent and value for money services cited as the reasons that people choose to travel to Stansted Airport by rail – so the extra capacity on train services at weekends will help to fulfil this increased demand.

Lee Smith, Abellio Greater Anglia’s Area Customer Service Manager, commented, “Stansted Airport is one of the UK’s largest airports with passenger numbers continuing to grow, many of whom use the Stansted Express train service. I am pleased that we have been able to invest in extra carriages on all our weekend services to provide extra seating and a better journey for our customers.”

With trains every 15 minutes between London Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport, and the station just a 2-minute walk to check-in, the Stansted Express not only offers customers a fast, frequent service, but also travel on one of the most modern train fleets in the country, which includes free Wi-fi, free plug points, unlimited luggage allowance and an at-seat trolley service of drinks and snacks.
