Abellio Greater Anglia has completed a £1.8 million upgrade and enhancement to the customer facilities at Bishop’s Stortford station. Work began last year on a major redevelopment scheme to transform customer facilities for the growing number of passengers who use the station each year (2.8 million in 2012/13).
The station improvements have been delivered by Abellio Greater Anglia as part of the National Stations Improvement Programme, a Department for Transport backed programme to deliver improvements to 150 medium-sized stations in England and Wales.
The main improvements include:
- New open plan ticket office counters providing easier access and improved customer service
- Three new ticket vending machines in a dedicated area making ticket purchase quicker and easier
- New retail facility selling a wide range of refreshments, newspapers and magazines
- New customer information screens throughout the station, including an interactive Railpoint providing real time journey planning information for customers
- New passenger waiting room with improved surroundings, comfortable seating and a workstation with electric chargers for mobile phones and laptops
- Additional CCTV throughout the station to improve personal security
- New passenger seating on all platforms
- Station repaint and new signage throughout making it easier for customers to find their way around the station
- Resurfacing and fitment of tactile paving to assist the mobility impaired
- New automatic ticket gates which will be fitted with barcode readers in due course for print at home ticketing
- Customer information point for easy access to station staff
- New community notice board for the sharing of information for local events and community groups
