Abellio Greater Anglia has completed a programme of electrical upgrades at rail stations in East Anglia to make them more energy-efficient.
The train operator’s ‘Rewire, Relight’ project has seen a complete rewiring and every lighting unit replaced with more energy-efficient ones at the following stations:
Alresford, Braintree, Brandon, Buckenham, Spooner Row, Stansted Mountfitchet, Westerfield and Wivenhoe.
LEDs, new variable controls and automatic settings for the lighting will help to reduce electricity consumption and improve energy-efficiency, reducing the stations’ carbon footprints.
The work has been funded by a Network Rail improvement scheme to enhance station facilities.
Abellio Greater Anglia’s Programme Delivery Manager, Simon Wilson, said, “The Rewire, Relight project is helping to create more energy-efficient stations and, at the same time, improve the station ambience and environment for passengers.”
