Rail passengers in Cambridgeshire, Essex and Hertfordshire enjoyed free treats at rail stations this morning, as train operator Abellio Greater Anglia began to give out over 7,000 cupcakes as part of their celebrations for the Queen’s 90th birthday.

Staff and managers at Audley End, Bishop’s Stortford, Broxbourne, Cheshunt, Elsenham, Ely, Great Chesterford, Harlow Town, Hertford East, March, Newport, Sawbridgeworth, Shelford, Stansted Mountfitchet, Waltham Cross, Ware and Whittlesford Parkway stations dressed up, decorated stations with bunting and gave out the treats to commuters as part of the national ‘Station to Station Queen's Celebration’ campaign.

The celebrations will continue all week with other events around the network, including a giant tea party at Burnham Station House and celebrations at Reedham and Sheringham at the weekend.

Abellio Greater Anglia’s Head of Customer Service – West, Keely Pagdin, commented: "The railway's links to The Royal Family go back as far as the mid-nineteenth century when Queen Victoria chartered the first royal coaches, so we are delighted to celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th birthday at stations across the network as part of the national Station to Station Queen's Celebration campaign. We hope that the festive atmosphere and giveaways at stations today will brighten our passengers' morning commute."
