A little blue train, decked with summer flowers, has arrived on the platform at Great Bentley rail station, thanks to volunteers of the Shed project at Maldon and the Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership (CRP).

Shed volunteers worked in partnership with the Essex and South Suffolk CRP and train operator, Abellio Greater Anglia, to improve the garden area at Great Bentley station.

Members of Shed, a charity that brings people together through community projects, built a large planter, shaped like a train using reclaimed barrels and fitted bespoke wooden planters into the carriages. The planters were then filled with flowers by the Essex and South Suffolk CRP volunteers and Abellio Greater Anglia staff.

Abellio Greater Anglia’s Area Customer Service Manager, Petrina Murphy, said, “Well done to everyone involved in creating and installing this wonderful planter. The platform now boasts an interesting feature as a result of the Shed volunteers’ hard work and we are very grateful to them and the CRP for organising the project, which will provide a bright and warm welcome to station users and visitors to the area.”
