Abellio Greater Anglia is investing in energy efficiency improvements at five more rail stations on its network.

The train operator’s ‘Rewire, Relight’ project will see every lighting unit in the station buildings and on platforms replaced with more energy-efficient ones at Alresford, Braintree, Brandon, Westerfield and Wivenhoe.

A complete rewiring at each station means that the train operator will install variable controls and automatic settings for the lighting, helping to reduce electricity consumption and improve energy-efficiency, in order to reduce the stations’ carbon footprint.

The project is being carried out on behalf of Abellio Greater Anglia by contractors, KH Engineering, and will continue into the New Year.

Abellio Greater Anglia’s Programme Delivery Manager, Simon Wilson, said, “The Rewire, Relight project helps us to create more energy-efficient stations and, at the same time, improve the station ambience and environment for passengers.”
