Abellio Greater Anglia has invested in additional seating on Stansted Express trains on weekends during December, which is traditionally a very busy time for the service.

On the weekends of 5/6th, 12/13th and 19/20th December, all Stansted Express services between London Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport will be increased to eight coaches, thereby doubling the number of seats that are usually available at weekends.

The Stansted Express train service continues to grow in popularity, with weekends during December becoming an increasingly busy time for the train operator.

Passenger numbers were up 26%, to over 7.6 million, in 2014 - with the train operator’s low cost fares and fast, frequent services cited as the reasons that people choose to travel to Stansted Airport by rail.

Lee Smith, Abellio Greater Anglia’s Area Customer Service Manager, commented, “Stansted Airport is the UK’s fourth largest airport with passenger numbers continuing to grow, many of whom use the Stansted Express train service. In preparation for the traditionally busy weekends in the run up to Christmas, I am pleased that we have been able to invest in extra carriages on all services to provide extra seating and a better journey for our customers.”

With trains every 15 minutes between London Liverpool Street and Stansted Airport, and the station just a 2-minute walk to check-in, the Stansted Express not only offers customers a fast, frequent service, but also travel on one of the most modern train fleets in the country, which includes free Wi-fi, free plug points, unlimited luggage allowance and an at-seat trolley service of drinks and snacks.
