The first phase of cycle parking improvements at Colchester North rail station is complete.

A new, free parking area accommodating 96 cycles is now open on the London-bound side of the station. The two-tier cycle racks will improve cycle parking at the station for rail passengers.

The second phase of the scheme will see a new, secure cycle compound installed also on the London-bound side of the station.

Access to the compound will be possible only via a key fob system which can be obtained from the ticket office for a refundable deposit, offering safe and secure storage for bikes.

Andrew Goodrum, Greater Anglia’s Customer Services Director said: “We are committed to improving cycle facilities for our customers, by installing many more cycle parking spaces and increasing cycle hire opportunities. We are proud to be in the vanguard of train operators pioneering schemes such as new, state-of-the-art CyclePoints for our customers. The improved facilities at Colchester will offer customers better cycle storage facilities.”

Since the franchise began in February 2012, Abellio Greater Anglia has implemented a wide variety of cycle-focused enhancements including upgrades to existing facilities, creating a new cycle strategy, making arrangements for special cycling events and increasing cycle parking spaces across the network including innovative large-scale CyclePoint schemes at Chelmsford and Cambridge.
