Abellio Greater Anglia has extended the benefits of Oyster and contactless pay as you go to include rail passengers using the Hertford East line.

From Monday 19 October, the use of Oyster and contactless has been extended to Rye House, St. Margarets, Ware and Hertford East stations along the Hertford East line, following the previous extension of Oyster and contactless to Broxbourne in 2013.

Rail passengers will be able to ‘touch-in / touch-out’ at the validators provided on the platforms and use Oyster and contactless for journeys to London and back, providing more flexibility, cheaper fares and greater convenience.

The introduction of Oyster and contactless to the Hertford East line is being delivered by Abellio Greater Anglia as an additional benefit for rail passengers, over and above the operator’s franchise commitments within the current short franchise contract to October 2016.

Andy Camp, Commercial Director, Abellio Greater Anglia said: “We are very pleased to introduce Oyster and contactless along the Hertford East line. This initiative provides increased flexibility for our customers and reflects the feedback we have received along the route, seeking the availability of Oyster and contactless pay as you go as soon as it was practical.”

TfL's Director of Customer Experience, Shashi Verma, said: “This is just one of the many Oyster and contactless projects we are working on to make paying for transport easier for everyone travelling in the Capital and beyond. Over 20 per cent of our pay as you go customers use contactless payment already because it is so quick and easy. There's no need to top-up, you just touch in and out with your credit or debit card."
