Innovative cycle scheme opens at Bishop’s Stortford rail station

Tuesday, 3 June 2014

Travellers using Bishop’s Stortford rail station can now take advantage of the UK’s first major rail station cycle hire programme, ‘Bike & Go’, which offers rail passengers the opportunity to hire a bike at their local station for an onward journey.

Train operator, Abellio Greater Anglia is pioneering ‘Bike & Go’ at 15 rail stations across its network, with Bishop’s Stortford station becoming the first in Hertfordshire to offer the scheme.

Providing low cost, rapid and convenient cycle rental, Bike & Go will be available to offer rail passengers greater choice about how they make their door-to-door journeys and is modelled on the Dutch Railways OV-fiets station cycle hire scheme.

The cycles are high quality and registration costs just £10 for the annual subscription, which is easily done via the website at: www.bikeandgo.co.uk, and the daily hire cost at £3.80 (less than the cost of many bus fares) is competitively priced.

Andrew Goodrum, Abellio Greater Anglia’s Customer Service Director, said, “Bishop’s Stortford’s new Bike & Go facility will improve the service and choice that we provide for our customers who are keen to cycle to and from their local station. Competitively priced and easy to use, Bike & Go complements other investments we are making to improve cycle parking with more secure facilities and new Cycle Points, offering a greener and healthier travel choice for our customers.”
