Eleven rail stations in East Anglia, which have never previously had cycle parking, can now offer this facility thanks to the completion of an upgrade programme by Abellio Greater Anglia.

Commuting to and from the rail station by bike is now an attractive option across the entire Abellio Greater Anglia network, after the company completed cycle parking improvements across its network, including installing cycle parking for the first time at Angel Road (2 spaces), Battlesbridge (10), Brampton (2), Brandon (10), Darsham (2), Eccles Road (4), Haddiscoe (4), Lakenheath (2), Rye House (8), Shippea Hill (2) and Spooner Row (2).

It means all 131 stations operated by the company now have cycle parking facilities available and marks another milestone in the company’s cycle-friendly strategy which has seen thousands of additional parking spaces provided, secure parking compounds provided at major station, major Cycle Points opened at Cambridge and Chelmsford and a new cycle forum set up to help prioritise and focus on further cycle-rail improvements.

The Breckland area has the highest number of stations to benefit from this upgrade (five stations on the Norwich - Cambridge route -, Eccles Road, Lakenheath, Shippea Hill and Spooner Row, have now all gained new cycle parking).

Norfolk County Council’s Cycling Champion, Hilary Cox, commented, “It's a good opportunity to show how Abellio Greater Anglia is meeting the requests and needs of the public to encourage people to use alternative transport and keep fit and healthy. To make travel journeys adaptable by using more than one mode of transport is beneficial not only to themselves, but to traffic congestion and air pollution. I look forward to more improvements along the line. “

Paul Oxley, Abellio Greater Anglia’s Stakeholder Manager said : “We’re delighted to complete this major cycle upgrade, which fulfils a commitment we made at the start of our current franchise. As one of the most cycle-friendly train operators, we have consistently improved and upgraded cycle facilities throughout our two short franchise terms. This notable milestone means that every single one of our stations now has some cycle parking available, making it much easier to cycle to the station to catch the train. We will keep on working to improve cycle-rail integration to make it an even more attractive and healthy travel option.”
