Ipswich MP, Ben Gummer will meet with representatives of Abellio Greater Anglia and contractor, Giffen, on Thursday 17th December to officially begin the £2M redevelopment project at Ipswich rail station.

The redevelopment of Ipswich station will include a new ticket office, booking hall, gateline and improved retail outlets.

The plans will allow for a more spacious layout and new, additional retail outlets in the booking hall as well as waiting facilities and improved customer information.

Following work on the old WH Smith and Pumpkin Café areas of the station, contractors Giffen will now commence works to create a new Ticket Office area and concourse, including a Customer Services Office and three new retail units.

The work is being funded by the National Stations Improvement Programme and will significantly improve the facilities and waiting environment for passengers.

Abellio Greater Anglia’s Area Customer Service Manager, James Steward, commented: “The redevelopment will greatly improve the layout of the booking hall area and create a more spacious, modern feel to bring the station into the 21st century and improve the station environment for our customers.”

Mr Gummer commented: “This is another sign that investment is coming to Ipswich. We need to present our best face to the world and that is why the station needs to look good. For our thousands of commuters the refurbishment will also bring improvements. There is much more to do but this is a good start.
