New waiting room opens at Witham station

Tuesday, 10 March 2015
A new waiting room and upgraded facilities at Witham rail station are benefiting passengers.

Abellio Greater Anglia is upgrading both waiting rooms and the toilet facilities with funding from Access for All to create easier access for those with mobility issues.

The new, larger waiting room on Platform 1/2 is now open and benefits from DDA compliant push button automatic doors, two train departure summary screens and energy-efficient heating, as well as new flooring and seating and redecoration in Abellio Greater Anglia colours.

Passengers can charge laptops and mobile phones and work while they wait with a specially made wall mounted work top with plug sockets and USB charging points.

Additional facilities in the waiting room include CCTV, air-conditioning and a window through to the adjacent Customer Service Office, allowing passengers to communicate easily with station staff.

The brand new ladies’ toilet facilities have been installed next to the existing male facilities further down the platform and the existing staff toilet facilities have also been completely refurbished.

The waiting room and disabled toilet facility on Platform 3/4 are also being refurbished and are due to open next week. The waiting room will benefit from new DDA compliant push button automatic doors, train departure summary screen and energy-efficient heating, as well as new flooring and seating and redecoration in Abellio Greater Anglia colours.

The platforms will benefit from additional seating as the waiting rooms’ existing benches will be relocated.

Simi Tinubu, Area Customer Service Manager, said, “We are delighted with the results of the improvement work on platform 1/2 and hope that passengers enjoy the new, more comfortable waiting environment. Investing in upgrades to stations across the network is extremely important to Abellio Greater Anglia, demonstrating our commitment to providing excellent facilities and service to our customers.”
