A new waiting room and First Class lounge at Ipswich rail station are benefiting passengers.

Abellio Greater Anglia has upgraded both waiting rooms with funding from Access for All to create easier access for those with mobility issues.

The new waiting room on Platform 3 is now open and benefits from push-button automatic doors and seating (both compliant with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act), a new train departure summary screen, CCTV, air-conditioning, new flooring and sofas, as well as redecoration in Abellio Greater Anglia colours.

Passengers can charge laptops and mobile phones and work while they wait with the addition of wall-mounted plug sockets.

The First Class Lounge on platform 2 has also been completely refurbished and a train departure summary screen, air-conditioning, new flooring and comfortable sofas, as well as redecoration in Abellio Greater Anglia colours.

Alan Trett, Area Customer Service Manager, said, “We are delighted with the results of the improvement work and passenger feedback has been very positive so far. Investing in upgrades to stations across the network is extremely important to Abellio Greater Anglia, demonstrating our commitment to providing excellent facilities and service to our customers.”

Ipswich station is to benefit from further improvements later in the year when work begins to redesign the station forecourt, allowing better access for buses and taxis, and improve the booking hall area, thanks to funding from the National Stations Improvement Programme.
