Work is underway to increase car parking capacity at a busy mainline rail station, thanks to an improvement scheme by Abellio Greater Anglia.

The programme of work will see the creation of an additional 80 car parking spaces at Diss station, on the Norwich – London Liverpool Street line, converting disused railway land and sidings to increase capacity.

The work will be welcomed by the 850 (approx.) rail passengers who use Diss station every day, who will find it easier and more convenient to park their vehicles and who will also benefit from improved security, as CCTV cameras will also be installed as part of the upgrade.

The additional 80 spaces will increase capacity at the station by 35%

The work is being carried out by contractors from Spence, Hollywell and Tallent and is due to be completed early next year. Customers should not be inconvenienced during the construction phase as the existing car park will remain fully operational throughout.

James Steward, Area Customer Service Manager for Abellio Greater Anglia said: “Diss is an increasingly busy station and I am pleased that works are beginning to improve the car park, providing better facilities for customers.”

The overall programme of car park improvement works will create an additional 386 car parking spaces across the Abellio Greater Anglia network and encompasses Althorne (22 spaces), Clacton On Sea (6), Diss (80), Ingatestone (20), March (20), Marks Tey (70), Wrabness (34) and Theobalds Grove (144).
