A New Bus Travel Offer for Ely Rail Users

Local train operator Greater Anglia has teamed up with bus operators Norfolk Green and Stagecoach to introduce a new integrated train and bus ticketing scheme for frequent travellers using Ely station. A photo call to launch the scheme was held at Ely Station on Friday 31 August.

The PlusBus ticket, which is already on offer at many stations across the national network, comes to Ely from Monday 3rd September. Customers who already buy rail season tickets to destinations such as Cambridge and London will now be able to get a PlusBus ticket for bus travel to/from Ely station. An Ely PlusBus ticket will be valid for unlimited travel on both the ‘absolutELY’ city bus service run by Norfolk Green, and local Stagecoach services 9 and 12 in Ely, from just £6.75 a week.

Commenting on the introduction of the new ticket, Norfolk Green Managing Director Ben Colson said “We’ve had an excellent response from local people to our new service, but we felt we needed to offer something more to make the bus attractive to rail commuters. PlusBus fits the bill, and we’ll be changing our route to provide new stops in the Kings Avenue area of the city, as well as adjusting our times to give better connections with the important commuter trains. For the commuter or the Cambridge college student, this represents excellent value for money and much less hassle than finding a parking space near the station!”

Greater Anglia’s Partnerships Manager, Geraint Hughes, added “We asked our customers how we could make their journeys to and from the station easier. Many of them told us that they would use a bus service to the station if it were provided. By working together with County and District Councils and funders Sainsbury’s, the bus service is now running and the addition of an easy to purchase through ticket for regular travellers is an important breakthrough. Our team at the station will be pleased to assist customers in adding PlusBus to their existing rail ticket.”
