Abellio Greater Anglia has invested in improved facilities for cyclists at a busy Essex rail station.

Two new cycle shelters have been installed at Hockley rail station to increase cycle parking capacity and offer improved all-weather storage to cyclists.

The two shelters, one in the Car Park on Plumberow Avenue and one on Station Approach, trebles the number of cycle parking spaces at Hockley to 90.

Andrew Goodrum, Abellio Greater Anglia’s Customer Services Director said: “We are committed to improving cycle facilities for our customers, by installing many more cycle parking spaces and increasing cycle hire opportunities. We are proud to be in the vanguard of train operators pioneering schemes such as new, state-of-the-art CyclePoints for our customers. The new facilities at Hockley will offer customers improved cycle storage facilities.”

Since the franchise began in February 2012, Abellio Greater Anglia has implemented a wide variety of cycle-focused enhancements including upgrades to existing facilities, creating a new cycle strategy, making arrangements for special cycling events and increasing cycle parking spaces across the network including innovative large-scale CyclePoint schemes at Chelmsford and Cambridge.

Last week, the company scooped three awards at the National Cycle Rail Awards for Best Customer Service, Partnership Working and Local Government Schemes (for Chelmsford Cycle Point) and Station of the Year for Chelmsford for its customer-focused, wide ranging and ongoing cycling strategy which delivers above and beyond its franchise commitments.
