Seven Greater Anglia staff from around the region have completed their Level 1 Certificate in British Sign Language.

Andrew Goodrum Greater Anglia’s Customer Service Director said: “I’d like to congratulate my colleagues on completing the Level 1 Certificate in British Sign Language. Since the franchise began we have concentrated our efforts on improving communication with our customers through a number of means and offering our staff this opportunity is further evidence of this commitment.”

The rigorous 30 week course was split into three modules of ten weeks and at the end of each module there was a recorded assessment for the course participants, which was sent off to an external examiner.

Gareth Williams, Greater Anglia’s Ipswich Station Supervisor commented on his experience: “I was very pleased to take up the opportunity to learn British Sign language. I’ve already had an opportunity to practice the skills I’ve learnt and to help people in boarding trains by using sign language. Several of the other attendees have also already been able to use their new skill.”

Gareth Williams was joined on the course by six colleagues from various parts of the business.
