Harwich Town Station Welcomes New Adopters
Train operator Abellio Greater Anglia welcomes Sue Robinson and Georgeta Busuioc as the new station adopters at Harwich Town.
As active community volunteers, Sue Robinson and Georgeta Busuioc have already begun the mammoth task of transforming an overgrown piece of land into a stunning station garden but now hope to take this further during their time as the official station adopters.
Sue and Georgeta have ambitious plans to enhance and maintain the general appearance of the station, specifically the garden area, whilst responding to the needs of the community and wildlife.
Speaking about the plans Sue said “Even though I’m a keen gardener, the creation of this station garden has been a real challenge. Now it’s done it looks fantastic and should encourage bees and other insects into this part of Harwich.”
Georgeta said “I moved to Harwich almost 9 years ago from London and love it here; I see this project as part of the regeneration of Harwich. The station is the gateway into the town so it’s important that, as a notable landscape, it welcomes the community and visitors alike. Lots of people are complimenting us as they pass and see us at work so it feels very worthwhile.”
James Steward, Area Customer Services Manager said: “We’re very pleased to have Sue and Georgeta on board. Station adopters play an important role in the presentation of the station and help to connect the railway with the local community. They’ve done a fabulous job of the station garden and are already making a big difference. We’re very grateful for their time and energy.”
