Greater Anglia has appointed a Norfolk man to oversee the management of the company’s Intercity and DMU train fleet.

Steve Chapman has been appointed as the new Fleet Manager at Norwich Crown Point Depot.

Mr Chapman is from a Royal Air Force engineering background having completed 19 years of service in the RAF. He joined as an engineering apprentice and completed his leadership training as a commissioned officer, before undertaking a variety of engineering management roles including overseeing operational maintenance of jet aircraft with his final role being Head of Engineering on IX(B) Squadron at RAF Marham, Norfolk.

He is highly experienced in vehicle engineering maintenance within a safety critical environment managing large teams of engineers.

Mr Chapman takes over from Acting Fleet Manager, Steve Mitchell, who over the last two years has been integral in improving the Intercity fleet to the extent that it has become the second most reliable Intercity fleet in the country.

Mr Mitchell will return to his previous role as Fleet Technical Engineer and deputy Engineering Director.

Steve Chapman is 41, lives in South Norfolk and is married to Rachel with 3 children, a son aged 7 and twins of 3. He commented, “I am looking forward to taking on the challenges of the role and helping the team to build on their successes.”
