Official Opening of £1.4m Billericay Station Upgrade

John Baron MP for Basildon and Billericay has officially opened the improved and upgraded Billericay station today, Friday 9 March.

The station – operated by Greater Anglia - has been transformed through an investment of £1.4m as part of the National Stations Improvement Programme. The much improved facilities include:

• New booking hall, and ticket office which now faces the forecourt with an additional ticket window and adjustable-height counter for disabled passengers
• New self-service ticket machines, cash point and provision for a new retail outlet
• Much improved station forecourt area with a dedicated taxi-rank, drop-off and set-down areas, better access for pedestrians, cyclists and those using local bus services from the station
• New waiting shelters on the London-bound platform
• Improved signage, lighting, CCTV and more secure fencing

The project will also be supplemented by a further investment in secure cycle parking from Essex County Council, which will be installed in the coming weeks. The improvement scheme has also been designed to provide for the installation of automatic ticket gates and passenger lifts at a future date.

John Baron MP for Basildon and Billericay said: “These improvements will benefit those using the station. The better facilities including upgraded lighting and CCTV are all welcome. Given that this money was apparently ring-fenced for station improvements some time ago, it is good Billericay was chosen for this investment by National Rail.”
