Followers of the Stansted Express Twitter site were able to take a ‘leap’ into First Class on the 29 February as the resident marketing team at Stansted Express made innovative use of the social media outlet to promote the First Class product on the busy airport route.

The marketing team used Twitter in the days leading up to 29 February to raise awareness of the new Stansted Express trains and especially the First Class service available on board, with tweets inviting followers to claim a First Class upgrade.

To obtain their complimentary upgrade on 29 February, Stansted Express Twitter followers were simply asked to repeat the campaign phrase ‘Leap Year’ to the Stansted Express marketing team representatives at London Liverpool Street or Stansted Airport stations.

Adrian Warren, Stansted Express Marketing Manager said: “Through our Leap Year promotion we have raised further awareness of the First Class product on our new Stansted Express trains and helped to increase the profile of our Twitter site.”

“We are very encouraged by the new marketing options that Twitter provides and hope to run similar promotions in the future.”

The new Class 379 trains feature air-conditioning, wi-fi, larger luggage racks and fully-accessible high-standard passenger accommodation; including 20 First Class and 189 Standard Class seats on each four carriage train. The Stansted Express service provides a 15 minute frequency of service between London Liverpool Street station and Stansted Airport.*
