Volunteers recognised at Greater Anglia’s annual ceremony

Volunteer station adopters from across Essex, Suffolk, Norfolk and Cambridgeshire have been crowned winners at Greater Anglia’s annual Station Adopter Awards.

Adopters were recognised in categories including Best Small Station, Best Adopter Group, and Most Improved Station. For the third year running the train operator also awarded a Best Newcomer Award.

Andrew Goodrum, Abellio Greater Anglia’s Customer Service Director, said: “This year has been another successful year for our station adopters. This year we’ve seen some fantastic and innovative gardening which are now enjoyed by everyone that uses the station. We would like to thank them all for their continued hard work.”

The 2016 winners were:

Best Small Station – Weeley, Essex

Best Medium Station – Diss, Norfolk

Best Staffed Station – Greater Yarmouth, Norfolk

Best Adopter Group – Reedham, Norfolk

Best Newcomer – Kathryn and Philip Ball, Shelford

Community Involvement – Richard Holland, Felixstowe Summer Special train

Most Improved Station –Whittlesford Parkway, Cambridgeshire

Best Personal Contribution – Adrian Sutterby, March

Judges’ Special Award – Betty and John Woollan, Trimley

More than 100 Station Adopters from across the Greater Anglia network gathered at the train operator’s annual awards ceremony held this year at Ipswich Town Football Club.

Greater Anglia operates a comprehensive Station Adopter scheme at its stations in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex and Cambridgeshire, where volunteers from the local community contribute to the upkeep of their local stations. Adopter groups work with Greater Anglia and Community Rail Partnerships to create colourful floral displays and a more welcoming environment.
