The Bittern line Community Rail Partnership will host another of its popular free to join guided walks this Sunday, June 16 leaving Worstead Railway Station at 11.20. Traversing the beautiful Norfolk countryside around Sloley, Tunstead Market and the railway path along the Bure Valley, the 6.5mile route will be led by Roger Hopkinson, ending at Hoveton & Wroxham Railway Station.
Connecting with the 10.36 train from Norwich and the 09.40 service from Sheringham, this latest walk is one of a series of regular rambles taking place throughout the year on routes connecting with railway stations on both the Bittern and Wherry Lines.
The walk is open to all ages with well-behaved dogs on leads welcome too. Organisers advise those participating to wear suitable clothing and footwear and to bring a drink and snack, although where possible, the walk will pause at a local hostelry. Whilst leaders take care to ensure the route is safe both before and during walks, it should be noted that participation is entirely at a walkers’ own risk.
Running for over twenty years, the railway connected walks are proving increasingly popular with over thirty people attending the May excursion from Somerleyton Station. Future walks include: July 21 from Roughton Road Station via Overstrand to Cromer, a meander through the marshes near Haddiscoe on August 18, a 7.5 mile circular route from Worstead via Dilham, Honing and the Weavers Way on September 15 and further routes from Hoveton & Wroxham Station on October 20, with an amble around Acle on November 17.
All scheduled walks are free to join for those arriving by train with discounted tickets available to those in groups or using either the Bittern or Wherry Lines Ranger Tickets which can be purchased at station ticket offices or on board the train from the conductor.
