A new rail/bus ticket to the popular resort of Aldeburgh has just been launched – making it easier to get to the Suffolk coast by public transport.

The East Suffolk Lines Community Rail Partnership has worked with train operator Greater Anglia and bus company First Eastern Counties to develop a new through ticket.

Here’s our pick of some of the best things to do in Aldeburgh:

Get lost in a good book at The Aldeburgh Bookshop

Visit The Aldeburgh Bookshop, an award-winning, independent, literary treasure trove. The shop also hosts its own literary festival every year.

Devour fish and chips overlooking the sea

No visit to the seaside is complete without a bag of freshly-cooked chips and a chunk of fried fish. Arguably the best fish and chips in town, Aldeburgh Fish and Chips has been a family business for more than 50 years.

Take a selfie with The Scallop

The four-metre-tall sea shell sculpture was created by Maggi Hambling, to celebrate Benjamin Britten. Located north of the town, The Scallop captures the spirt and heritage of Aldeburgh.

Enjoy a movie at Aldeburgh Cinema

See it by the sea - dodge the sun or while away rainy days by catching up on one of the latest releases at Aldeburgh Cinema. It’s a registered charity and will celebrate its 100th birthday next year

Tickets can be bought at any Greater Anglia ticket office, on our website or app, or from the conductor on the train. Adult return tickets from Ipswich to Aldeburgh cost £14.30, from Colchester £21.60 and from London Liverpool Street £51.90.
