‘Dunwich Dynamo’ cyclists must book ahead to reserve cycle space on Greater Anglia’s trains

Cyclists taking part in the popular Dunwich Dynamo cycle event later this month should take note of special cycle restrictions brought in by Greater Anglia to keep services running smoothly.

In order to maintain a punctual and safe service, Greater Anglia will introduce cycle restrictions on the network on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 July, as it has done for this event in previous years.

The restrictions are as follows:

Saturday 13 July - Only the normal number of bikes will be permitted on our trains (6 bikes on Mainline services between Norwich and London, and 4 on all other routes). Passengers travelling from a rural service and intending to travel on an intercity service from Norwich or Ipswich must have a cycle reservation for the intercity service.

Sunday 14 July - No bikes will be permitted between Lowestoft and Ipswich (including Darsham and Saxmundham) as well as Lowestoft to Norwich. This includes all forms of bikes, including bike frames, folding bikes, bike parts and bikes in bike bags.

On the mainline, only the advertised maximum of 6 bikes will be accommodated between Norwich and Ipswich, and then from Ipswich towards London a special reservation system will be in place.

As in previous years, for those customers returning to London on Sunday morning, Greater Anglia is supporting the event by introducing a special bike reservation service and adding additional time at Ipswich station on some intercity services.

A special reservation system will be in place for the services from Ipswich on Sunday morning and all bikes must be booked through this system. Normal bike reservation methods will be suspended on these special trains.

In order to minimise delays to other customers and services, the advertised maximum number of bikes must be adhered to at all times and we will be unable to accommodate any additional bikes beyond this allowance.

Kim Bucknell, Greater Anglia’s Head of Customers Service East, said: “We would encourage all cyclists to check before they travel and to ensure they have the appropriate reservations for their bicycles.

“These restrictions are in place for the safety of our passengers and these rules will also help to maintain a reliable and punctual service.”
