How can I get a £5 fare from Greater Anglia?

You can now go by rail from East Anglia to explore the capital, coast and beyond – with a single ticket costing less than a bag of fish and chips – thanks to a new offer from Greater Anglia.

Our autumn “Hare Fares” are now available with 50,000 seats to and from London, from just £5 or £1 for children one way.

All you need to do is go online https://www.greateranglia.co.uk/harefares or use the Greater Anglia app to buy your special hare fare tickets between 11 and 31 October to travel on any date from 14 October to 21 November.

Seats are available for several journeys across the network – including routes from Cambridge, Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester and Southend Victoria to London, so you can save more money to hit the shops or enjoy a meal with friends.

Thousands of bargain fares are also available from London, so if you’re looking to escape the capital can explore the Essex coastline, Suffolk countryside or the history and culture on offer in Norfolk and Cambridgeshire.

This means you can grab a Hare Fare to use during half term for a family day out, catch up with friends before the Christmas rush or enjoy a peaceful day at one of the beautiful rural retreats on our network.

I’ve had a look and I can’t find any hare fares. Where are they?

You will need to be travelling to or from London on a longer distance route where you would normally have an Advance ticket type as a starting point. Then you will need to look at off peak times any time between the offer dates (14 October to 21 November). The further in advance you book, the more likely there are to be £5 tickets left on those off-peak trains. The offer is only available through Greater Anglia online, our app and Trainline.com.

Hare Fares are like normal Advance fares, apart from the fact that you are not able to get additional discounts like railcards reductions etc. as these are already heavily discounted. Once you book a ticket for a train, you must stick to that train, otherwise you will have to pay an excess fare on train or buy a whole new ticket. Book with confidence policy does also apply to these tickets. The offer applies to standard class tickets only, first class tickets are not included. Hare Fares are not valid on journeys wholly within the Oyster card area zones 1-6.

Remember Greater Anglia also has a range of other great value fares which are available all year round, including GroupSave for people travelling in a group of three or more, a special London evening out fare for those staying overnight in the capital and a Club 50 discount for those aged 50 over.

For the best value fares, passengers should book in advance and the earlier you book, the more you can save.
