A new state of the art CCTV system will help deter thieves and vandals at rail stations across East Anglia.
Train operator, Greater Anglia, is upgrading its CCTV - moving to an internet-based ‘cloud’ system which will record much higher quality images and is more reliable and allows for remote viewing of stations.
The system records locally at each station but they are all connected via a secure internet network so that they can be monitored remotely by Greater Anglia and shared with the British Transport Police.
It also allows for footage, which is stored for up to 30 days, to be easily uploaded to the British Transport Police as evidence, helping to speed up their investigations.
Simone Bailey, Greater Anglia’s Asset Management Director, said, “We take our customers’ security very seriously so we are pleased to make this investment to help safeguard them and their possessions while using our stations.”
“The message is clear. If you are intending to steal from or vandalise a rail station in East Anglia, our CCTV will provide us with very clear footage that will help us to identify and prosecute you.”
Greater Anglia committed to upgrade station CCTV at the beginning of its franchise and has taken advantage of improvements in technology to create a fully integrated, cloud-based system that is a significant improvement on the previous stand-alone systems.
All station CCTV will now be able to be monitored and administered from its Control Room in Romford.
The train operator also plans to monitor the footage during disruption to help review and improve station management plans.
