Kind-hearted Greater Anglia staff at Cambridge North railway station will be fundraising for Addenbrookes in the run up to Christmas.

They hope to raise money with a Christmas ‘Memory’ Tree where people can remember their loved ones.

For a minimum £1 donation for a tag, people can add a loved one’s name or their own personal message to the tree.

All the funds raised will go towards the proposed new Cambridge Children’s Hospital.

The tree is the idea of Greater Anglia Customer Service team member, Denise Vincent, who said, “We aim to have a charity collection every year at the station and the idea for the Memory Tree came as many of us have lost loved ones over the past couple of years.

“The idea of a new dedicated children’s hospital for Cambridge is really inspiring so all the proceeds from the Memory Tree will go to Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust to help towards their fundraising target.”

Greater Anglia’s Area Customer Services Manager, Anita Stuart, said, “This is a lovely idea for an extremely good cause so I hope that people will support it. I also hope it might help bring to comfort to some people as Christmas can be a difficult time for those who are missing their loved one.”

Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust (ACT) Director of Fundraising, Jonathan McGee, said: “We’re delighted that the team at Greater Anglia are supporting Cambridge Children’s Hospital in this way. We are fundraising to help realise the vision of having a dedicated children’s hospital that delivers a whole new way of care with the child at the centre of it. And we are so grateful to Greater Anglia staff for being part of that this Christmas.”

The Memory Tree will be at the station throughout December.

People should ask a member of staff at Cambridge North station for a tag, or they can visit https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising-edit/camnorthmemorytree to make a donation.

Addenbrookes is currently fundraising to build the new hospital – which will be the first dedicated children’s hospital in East Anglia.

The hospital is planned to include a University research facility as well as cutting-edge treatments and technology. To find out more visit www.cambridgechildrens.org.uk
