Rail stations are looking smarter for rail passengers after extensive cleaning was carried out by Greater Anglia working in partnership with Carlisle Cleaning Services.

Cleaners were hard at work at Colchester North station throughout May to thoroughly clean platform edges, glazing, and cycle racks and remove limescale from toilets.

They cleaned platform edges with a specialist high pressure, high temperature jetting machine which restores the platform surfaces to their original appearance.

The process also helps to minimise the potential for slips, trips and falls, as passengers board and alight from trains.

The cleaning activity is part of a wider programme to continuously enhance the cleanliness and appearance of stations on the Greater Anglia network.

Already completed are Billericay, Hockley, Ipswich, Manningtree, Rochford and Southend Victoria.

Over the next six months Cambridge, Chelmsford, Harlow Town and Shenfield will also receive the same treatment.

Greater Anglia’s Area Presentation Manager, Dave Cameron, said, “I hope that customers will notice a real improvement to the station environment as our enhanced cleaning regime brings results.”

Carlisle Support Services Contract Manager for Greater Anglia, Alex Orr, said, “It’s great to have a team of highly dedicated, motivated and enthusiastic individuals who pride themselves on delivering high-quality cleaning services to our valued client, Greater Anglia.”
