Greater Anglia is carrying out vital work to improve the reliability of lifts at Witham station – during which time the lifts will be out of action.

From 1-3 April, engineers will be working on the lifts on platforms 1 and 2 at Witham station.

Customers unable to use stairs will need to change their journey plans as follows.

  • People travelling from Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester south towards London should leave the train at Colchester where Greater Anglia will arrange a taxi to Witham.
  • Customers travelling north from London, Shenfield, Chelmsford should get off the train at Chelmsford where staff will arrange a taxi to Witham.
  • Passengers starting their journey from Witham will be provided with a taxi to either Colchester or Chelmsford depending on their direction of travel.

Greater Anglia is asking customers with accessibility needs to give advanced notice of their journey, if possible, so that staff can book taxis ahead, to reduce delays to passengers’ journeys as a result of the lifts being maintained.

Simi Tinubu, Greater Anglia’s Area Customer Service Manager, said: “Witham is a busy station and we want it to be accessible for everyone.

“Unfortunately, there is no good time to carry out this work. However, all passengers will still be able to complete their journeys.

“We ask that passengers needing assistance give us as much notice and information as possible and we would like to thank them for their patience while this work is carried out.”
