Train operator Greater Anglia has installed new lighting in its Clacton depot, in a bid to save energy and strengthen its carbon footprint.
As part of the organisation’s commitment to saving energy, engineers are in the process of replacing all lighting in Clacton depot with LED bulbs.
Greater Anglia has invested £65,000 in the project, which is is due to be finished by the end of April. It is estimated that the new lighting will save around £12,000 every year in energy costs.
Simone Bailey, Greater Anglia's Asset Management Director, said: “This is good news for our colleagues working at Clacton. With the savings we will make on energy bills, the work will pay for itself in just over five years.
“The improvement in lighting levels will make the environment more pleasant for the engineering teams.
“We care about the planet and we will do all we can to reduce the impact we have on the environment.”
Greater Anglia has recently worked with the Association of Community Rail Partnerships (ACORP), Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership (ESSCRP) and Wakes Colne Parish Council to install solar powered lights at Chappel & Wakes Colne railway station, and there are plans to improve the lighting at Lowestoft station.
