Greater Anglia is making a further change to its temporary timetable by putting in an extra service between Cambridge and Stansted Airport from Monday 6 April.

The company is currently running a reduced timetable as many fewer people are travelling as they heed Government lockdown advice to prevent the spread of coronavirus.

The reduced timetable enables the company to run a robust service to ensure that key workers are able to travel to work and back.

From Monday 6 April, Greater Anglia will run a two-hourly service between Cambridge and Stansted Airport, where some flights are still operating.

Greater Anglia and Cross Country, which usually serve the route together, have agreed that Greater Anglia will provide the service during this lockdown period.

The service will run daily, with Monday to Friday timings as follows:

Cambridge to Stansted: 06.35 then 2-hourly from 08.03 to 22.03
Stansted to Cambridge: 07.21 then 2-hourly from 08.41 to 22.41

Customers are advised to check full details and weekend timings on the Greater Anglia website, before they travel.

Other services remain unchanged from the current revised timetable, although they are being monitored. If there are further alterations, customers will be updated.

The revised timetable has been operating smoothly, with punctuality of between 93% and 99% throughout the period since it was introduced on Monday 23 March.

From Monday 30 March, ticket office opening hours at some stations were temporarily reduced as passenger numbers have fallen significantly.

Further temporary changes are due to take place at some ticket offices on the West Anglia route, in response to the reduced Cross Country service on this line.

From Sunday 5 April, Audley End ticket office will open from 06.00-10.00 and 15.00-19.00 on weekdays, 06.00-10.00 and 15.00-18.00 on Saturdays, and 09.00-17.00 on Sundays. Cheshunt ticket office will open from 06.15-19.00 Monday-Saturday, and 08.15-16.00 on Sundays. Waltham Cross will open 06.00-10.00 and 15.00-19.00 Monday-Saturday, and 08.15-15.45 on Sundays.

Martin Moran, Greater Anglia’s commercial and customer service director said: "We have seen a significant reduction in the number of passenger using the railway, but we still need to provide a good reliable service for the essential key workers who are using our trains to get to work and back.

"We will continue to keep a close on eye on passenger numbers and make any changes necessary to both train services and ticket office hours, making sure that we give customers notice of any changes that we make.

"We’d like to thank all our staff for the sterling work they’re doing in keeping the railway running in this time of national emergency and we’d also like to thank the public for staying away unless their journey is completely necessary, so that we all play our part in stopping coronavirus from spreading."

Revised timetables and ticket office hours are available on the Greater Anglia website.
