Greater Anglia offers choirs a ‘Platform to Perform’ at rail stations as part of BBC Music Day

Voice of Kylie Minogue to welcome passengers from East Anglia as they arrive at London Liverpool Street

Rail commuters passing through Cambridge, Chelmsford, Ipswich and Norwich stations on Friday (28 September) will be welcomed by the sound of music as Greater Anglia offers local choirs a ‘platform to perform’ as part of the BBC’s UK-wide Music Day event.

Commuters passing through Chelmsford station will be serenaded by uplifting harmonies of local choir, The Sound Collective Chorus from 7.30-8.15am and 6.30-8pm.

Pop Chorus, a Suffolk-based community choir, will raise the roof at Ipswich station from 5pm-7pm with hits from the likes of Robbie Williams, Erasure, Radiohead, Beatles, Ed Sheeran and Bon Jovi.

At Cambridge, contemporary community choir, Vocal Remix, will regale commuters with their take on a range of pop hits from 6.30pm.

Norwich station will welcome Salutem! – the Norfolk Community Health & Care NHS Trust’s work place choir – at 5.30pm followed by Invidia Voices – a 100 strong rock and soul choir –from 6pm-6:45pm.

In addition, Kylie Minogue has recorded some fun, music-related passenger announcements sure to raise a smile from people travelling through London Liverpool Street station on Friday.

Paul Haynes, Greater Anglia’s Partnerships Manager, said, “It’s great to be involved, improving links between the community and the station and bringing smiles to the faces of the thousands of commuters who pass through.

“Working with our Community Rail Partnerships, we have recognised for many years that music is a great way to bring people together and as a result have organised lots of music-related events on our trains such as special music trains, with live bands on board, and supported events like the Harwich Sea Shanty Festival.”

For BBC Music Day initiative, Platform to Perform, 40 choirs will be singing to travellers at railway stations across the UK with highlights to be broadcast on BBC Local Radio Stations.
