Greater Anglia to run additional trains for Ipswich v Peterborough

Greater Anglia is advising passengers that some services are set to be very busy on Saturday 1 February when Ipswich Town are at home to Peterborough United.

Greater Anglia is running additional services, passengers are advised that there are likely to be large queues and very busy trains, because of the expected numbers of people. Extra staff will be on hand to help.

Trains will run with the maximum number of carriages, but services are still very likely to be full.

Peterborough-Ipswich train times:

09.50 – timetabled service

11.00 – additional service

11.50 – timetabled services

Ipswich-Peterborough train times:

17.35 – additional service

17.58 – timetabled service

20.01 – timetabled service


The trains on these services are all due to be Greater Anglia’s new four-carriage trains.

To avoid queueing to buy tickets, passengers are advised to get them in advance online or via the Greater Anglia app to reduce their waiting times at the station.

James Steward, Greater Anglia’s Area Customer Service Manager, said: “Trains and stations are expected to be very busy as people make their way to and from Portman Road. People should buy their tickets in advance where possible and allow more time for their journeys.

“By leaving the car at home and taking the train, fans will reduce their carbon footprint and help protect the environment.

“Passengers can get discounts and deal on fares, such as GroupSave where groups of three to nine people can save a third, when booking in advance and children travel for just £2 with any adult.”

Passengers are also advised that services between Cambridge and Ipswich are likely to be busy due to Cambridge United playing at Colchester United.
