A ticket office supervisor who raises thousands of pounds for charity and puts on fun events for customers at her station has won an international award.

Laura Englestone, ticket office supervisor at Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft, was named Abellio ‘Employee of the Year Award’, out of 13,000 employees worldwide at an awards ceremony bringing together Abellio staff from across the UK and Europe.

She was given the accolade for her enthusiasm and energy, genuinely caring for her customers and colleagues, helping colleagues to do their best and putting on many fun events that brighten Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft rail stations.

Laura said, “On the night I was completely shocked to have won in the live international vote as all the finalists were absolutely brilliant. I felt so proud and honoured to have won. I work alongside some great people and this award is as much for them as it is for me.”

The Smart Card Team - Kamelia Lazarova, Jodie Bath, Richard Walton and Paul Morris – were named ‘Team of the Year’ for the successful introduction of new Smart Cards for Greater Anglia’s passengers.

Customers can swap paper season tickets for a Smart Card which is easy to renew and can be tapped on ticket barriers to pass through. The team has managed the successful roll out of 48,000 Smart products so far.

Kamelia commented, “We are absolutely thrilled that the work of our very small team has been recognised for the positive effect that we have had on the business by bringing a completely new, innovative product to our colleagues and customers smoothly and conveniently.”

Jamie Burles, Managing Director at Greater Anglia, said, “I am delighted that Laura and the Smart Team have been recognised for their important contribution which has brought benefits to the business and customers. We know that we have colleagues all over the network making a difference to customers every day.

“Recognising individuals and teams at a group level through the Abellio Achievement Awards will help to further drive a culture of excellence in everything we do and demonstrates the dedication and commitment of all our staff to provide excellent service and performance to our customers.”
