Artwork created by local students has gone on display at an Essex railway station.

Youngsters from Figure of Eight education, an organisation which helps vulnerable children by offering an alternative education programme, have created colourful displays at Prittlewell station.

The artwork is the first project carried out since a new community rail partnership (CRP), which aims to promote the local rail line between Wickford and Southend, was launched in March this year.

There already five community rail parterships Essex under the Essex & South Suffolk CRP, which have won acclaim for their efforts to re-energise rural rail services and attract increased numbers of passengers through events and community projects.

Paul Oxley, Greater Anglia’s Public Affairs manager, said: “We would like to thank Figure of Eight for their fantastic contribution and for creating this wonderful mural at Prittlewell station. It has made a real difference to the station and within just a few days, we have had positive comments from customers.

“We would also like to thank Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership for putting this together – it has been a great way to help launch the new CRP between Wickford and Southend.”

Jayne Sumner, Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership Officer for Essex County Council said: “We are very grateful to Nick Sweeney and the students at Figure of Eight for their great artwork, which makes Prittlewell station a much brighter place.

“The new CRP is now underway to help promote Southend and the destinations along the line.”
