The Essex and South Suffolk Community Rail Partnership has teamed up with the RSPB and Greater Anglia to run a bird watching event on Sunday 28 November.
Bird lovers can catch the train to Wrabness station where they will be met by an RSPB guide at 1.10pm who will take them on a two-hour excursion to see Wrabness Nature Reserve’s overwintering wildfowl and waders such as Brent Geese, Turnstone and Wigdeon.
The event is sponsored by The Essex path to Prosperity project to promote the Essex coastline.
Tickets for the 12:37pm train from Manningtree or 12.54pm train from Harwich to Wrabness will be just £5 per adult and £3 per child and this will include a hot drink and cake at the Wrabness Community Café after the event.
Tickets are limited to 20 which must be booked in advance at esscrp.org.uk. Only people with a valid train ticket will be able to join the RSPB guided walk.
Jayne Sumner, Essex & South Suffolk CRP’s Rail Engagement Manager, said, “We’re delighted to put on this special event to showcase one the county’s real hidden gems. The overwintering birds in the Stour estuary at Wrabness are a sight to behold and this is sure to be a very enjoyable event for all ages.”
Alan Neville, Greater Anglia’s Customer and Community Engagement Manager, said, “Because travelling by rail is a much more environmentally friendly option than the car, this event is a great way to get in touch with nature and enjoy the beautiful Essex countryside without leaving a large carbon footprint as you go.”
Customers are advised to use the full length of trains and platforms and to wear a face covering at busy stations and on trains.
