Passengers on Greater Anglia’s Norwich – London Intercity standard class services are once again enjoying hot drinks, sandwiches and snacks served at their seat after a 10 year gap.

The at-seat catering trollies have been reintroduced to 24 services per day to improve customer service on morning peak, lunch time and evening peak trains.

There are 10 dedicated on board staff operating the trolley service from Greater Anglia’s team of 70 catering employees, who will continue to staff the café bar which is available on most Intercity services throughout the day.

Previously the trolley service only operated in First Class giving out free refreshments, but Greater Anglia has seen more and more First Class customers collecting their free refreshments from the buffet car, so decided to put the catering trollies to better use.

Michael Wyatt, Greater Anglia’s Business Manager, On Board Catering said, “The trollies are proving very popular with customers and we’re pleased to offer this extra level of customer service during their journeys.”

The service has been in place for 12 weeks with passengers giving positive feedback on the company’s twitter account @greateranglia:

One satisfied passenger commented: “Such a treat to have a trolley on the 17:50 to Norwich - such happy ladies - a credit to you”. Another said, “Great seeing the trolley service back on the Norwich route. Can you make it permanent please?”

Greater Anglia plans to continue to operate trollies through standard class, including when the new trains arrive from 2019. Over the next few months the On Board Catering Team will be updating the refreshments on offer at the cafe bar and at-seat service with new products, including freshly-ground coffee.
