Greater Anglia is advising passengers that some services are set to be very busy on Saturday 17 August due to several events happening at the same time.

Ipswich Town are playing away to Peterborough United, Norwich City are at home to Newcastle United, Colchester United are at home to Cambridge United and the Country Fair Raceday will take place at Newmarket Racecourse.

Greater Anglia is advising passengers that there are likely to be large queues and very busy trains, particularly on the Ipswich to Peterborough line, because of the expected numbers of people. Extra staff will be on hand to help.

Trains will run with more carriages between Ipswich and Peterborough where possible, but services are still very likely to be full.

To avoid queueing to buy tickets, passengers are advised to get them in advance online or via the Greater Anglia app to reduce their waiting times at the station.

James Steward, Greater Anglia’s Area Customer Service Manager, said: “Trains and stations are expected to be very busy on Saturday 17 August as people make their way to and from these popular events. People should buy their tickets in advance where possible and allow more time for their journeys.

“We are running longer trains where possible and practical, but passengers may wish to consider alternative arrangements.”

Everyone is encouraged to check before they travel either via the Greater Anglia app, website or Twitter.
