Early Careers

Traineeships

Greater Anglia Customer Service traineeship programme supports young people who are looking to develop their skills for apprenticeships, sustainable employment, and further learning. Since 2017 Greater Anglia have partnered with a local training provider to offer traineeship opportunities to young people who are currently out of mainstream education or employment. The programme is part of our commitment to Diversity & Inclusion which helps provide young individuals with aspiration and insight into a career in the railway. Traineeships combine an education and training programme with work experience.

Industrial Placements

Greater Anglia works in partnership with local universities to offer a twelve-month industrial placement opportunity to several 2nd year university students who are looking to supplement their degree with professional experience. We are committed to giving young students the opportunity to gain skills specific to their subject of choice alongside the employability skills required for real-life work and make future career choices. In previous years we have had some excellent opportunities in Marketing, IT, Finance and Asset Management departments.

Supported Internships

Supported Internships aim to give young people with a range of needs including learning disabilities, autism, PD, mental health, and special education needs and or disability (SEND) the skills to move into employment. Each academic year we work with local educational establishments to offer experience to a few students in non-safety critical roles. The educational establishment partners with a charity to provide job coaches to support the students while carrying out the internship which tapers off as they get familiar with the role.

Supported Internships are designed to develop transferable skills, knowledge, and attitudes in readiness for paid employment. Through training and work experience, young people will develop employability skills, self-confidence, job specific skills and Maths, English and ICT skills whilst working alongside employees in a real employment environment/setting. This is part of our continued commitment to bringing diverse talent into our business and building opportunities that are inclusive to all.
