The Greater Anglia Operations Function is responsible for the planning and operation of our train service - all the way from planning the timetable through to the driving of the trains and looking after our customers whilst they are on board. The Operations Function consists of a number of different teams:
The Operational Planning team manages the planning of the timetable determining when our services will run. This includes planning the movement of trains themselves throughout the day, as well as movement of Drivers, Conductors and other staff. The team creates a plan to provide the best possible service to our customers as part of our commitment to the operation of a reliable timetable.
The Operational Resourcing team creates the staff rosters for all our individual colleagues in line with the plan created by the Operational Planning team - making sure that each day we have our colleagues in the right place at the right time to operate the plan efficiently. Once rostering is completed, the team is also responsible for the real-time resourcing of operations colleagues throughout the day - in liaison with the Control team.
The Control team is responsible for real-time monitoring and management of the train service, ensuring that our customers are kept informed of what is happening both when a normal service is running, and in the event of any disruption or alterations to services. They identify and react to occurrences as they take place 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and aim to provide the best possible train service to customers, whatever the circumstances. The team is responsible for the implementation of contingency plans when significant service disruptions occur, adapting these plans to account for the exact nature of the disruption. This real-time management of the train service is achieved through effective communication with front line colleagues.
