The lights on the Trafalgar Square Christmas tree are switched on during a ceremony in Trafalgar Square, London
Every year since 1947, the people of Norway have presented the people of London with a Christmas tree as a symbol of gratitude for Britain's support during the Second World War. Decorated in a traditional Norwegian style with hundreds of white lights, the lighting of the tree signals the beginning of the festive season in the capital. Arrive early to secure a good vantage point.
