First Class

First Class on Norwich to London intercity services from 13 September 2021

We are still in the transition phase as we bring in a new train fleet across our network and with the timetable still evolving as we emerge from the pandemic. In addition, the maintenance arrangements for our Stansted Express trains (which are very similar to the intercity trains, but don’t have any First Class seating) involve them needing to come to Norwich on a regular basis. The combination of all these factors mean there are some amendments to the operation of the intercity timetable, which see a small number of intercity services planned to operate without First Class seating, until further notice. From 13 September these services are planned to be :

05.00, 06.24, 08.03, 13.00, 13.30, 18.00 from Norwich
10.30, 11.00, 15.30, 16.00, 19.30, 20.30 from London

05.00, 09.04, 14.00, 19.00 from Norwich
06.30, 11.30, 16.30, 20.00 from London

08.00, 13.00, 18.00 from Norwich
10.30, 15.30, 20.30 from London

All other intercity services are scheduled to have First Class seating as planned.

It’s all change

We’re replacing every single train on our network with brand new Intercity, Regional and Suburban trains. First Class will be exclusively on the Intercity trains operating between Norwich and Liverpool Street, we’ve highlighted a few benefits of travelling First Class below. As we begin to introduce our new Suburban trains, the availability of First Class on other routes will begin to reduce. If you buy a First Class ticket but find your train does not have First Class availability, you can claim a refund for the difference by sending a scanned copy of your ticket to our Customer Relations team, or use this form and we will get back to you.

*Some early services from London and late services from Norwich may not offer a cafe or trolley service. Please check the timetable for the relevant refreshment symbols. During the transition period of our new Intercity trains, commuter-type trains may operate some other Intercity services at short notice.

When there is weekend engineering work on the route between London and Norwich, all or part of the rail leg of the journey may be operated by commuter-type stock without table seats or refreshments. Availability of First Class Advance tickets may be restricted because of the limited First Class accommodation on these trains.
