Mobile Tickets

Mobile tickets are a more convenient way to get your ticket.

Avoid the queues by getting your ticket sent straight to your phone. All you need is to download our mobile app.

Tickets for immediate travel

You can now buy Single and Day Return tickets up to ten minutes before your train departure. This convenient way to buy tickets is currently available for journeys to and from Tottenham Hale and Bishop's Stortford from Roydon, Harlow Mill, Sawbridegworth, Stansted Mountfitchett, Stansted Airport, Elsenham, Newport, Audley End, Great Chesterford, Whittlesford Parkway and Shelford.

All you need to do is activate your ticket on the day of travel. If you're starting your journey at Tottenham Hale or Bishop's Stortford you need to scan your barcode on the station ticket barrier scanner. If you're starting your journey at any of the other stations listed then present it to the on train staff, or scan your m-ticket on the barrier at Tottenham Hale or Bishop's Stortford.

We're rolling this out to more stations throughout 2015 and 2016. Check here for updates for further locations that have been added.

The mobile ticket has two parts, the first contains your details and the second contains the barcode to be scanned at the ticket barrier:

Please don't forget to charge your mobile, as if you are unable to display your m-ticket, a new ticket at the full fare will have to be purchased in order to travel. It is your responsibility to make sure there is sufficient battery so your ticket can be seen. You may also be asked to show the payment card used to buy the ticket, and a form of ID.

Advance tickets

In addition Advance Purchase tickets are available on selected routes. Currently, you are able to take advantage of a mobile ticket if you are opting for an Advance ticket on:

  • The Mainline service between Norwich and London Liverpool Street
  • Connecting stations on branch lines from Great Yarmouth, Cromer/Sheringham, Lowestoft, Felixstowe and Harwich, Clacton on Sea and Walton on Naze, as well as Ely via Cambridge to London

The app will automatically provide you with an Advance mobile ticket if it is available. If not, you can still buy the ticket and collect it using ticket on departure. The mobile ticket is easier and more convenient though. It is sent to your smartphone shortly after purchase.

Once you've bought an Advance m-ticket they cannot be exchanged or refunded, so remember, you'll need to activate your ticket on the day of travel and show your unique m-ticket to conductors before boarding or whilst on the train, and at the gated barriers. You cannot buy an m-ticket on someone's behalf unless you are travelling with them, as they will require the phone and the card that was used to pay for the ticket.
