The National Book with Confidence scheme has ended. Advance tickets purchased until 30 November can be changed fee free until 6pm the day before your booked service. Normal Advance ticket conditions will apply afterwards.

We all know plans can suddenly change. So book with confidence knowing that you can rebook when you travel - fee free!

All you need to do is change the date/time of your Advance ticket by 6pm the day before you’re meant to travel. Fee free changes already apply to Anytime, Off-Peak & Super Off-Peak tickets.

How to change your ticket

The date and time of Advance tickets can be changed fee free for the same journey booked during the Book with Confidence scheme. You'll need to pay the difference if your new ticket is more expensive and we won't refund the difference if your new Advance ticket is cheaper.

  • If you checked out as a guest, email or call our Web Support Team on 0345 600 7245 (option 3).
  • Phone lines may be busy at the moment so if it’s more convenient, please email. Lines are open Monday to Sunday from 08:00 - 17:00 and an answer phone is available outside these times.

  • Some retailers may not offer fee free changes to Advance fares so if this applies to you, please visit one of our ticket offices with your ticket.

Don’t know when to rebook your Advance ticket?

If you’re undecided on when to rebook your Advance ticket, contact us by 6pm on the day before you're meant to travel through the Customer Relations webform to see if you can exchange it for a Rail Travel Voucher.

We issue paper Rail Travel Vouchers by post so please make sure your request leaves plenty of time for them to be processed and delivered before your next planned journey. These vouchers can be redeemed at our stations up to 12 months in the future and are valid across the National Rail network.

Anytime tickets and Off-Peak & Super Off-Peak train tickets offer different levels of flexibility on when you can board your train so you may find that you don’t need to change your ticket.

However, if you do need to rebook when you travel, you can submit your original ticket to the place of purchase for a refund, fee free, and use this credit to buy another ticket. This must be done within 28 days of the ticket expiry date and fare price differences may apply.

Good to know

  • Book with Confidence is a scheme which applies fee free changes to Advanced tickets purchased until 6pm on 30 November 2022. Standard terms and conditions will apply afterwards. The origin and destination must stay the same when you change your journey and charges for the difference in fare price may apply.
  • Fee free changes already apply to Anytime, Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak tickets.
  • Advance ticket changes must be requested by 6pm on the day before departure of the first booked service on your ticket. Any changes made after the first booked service has departed are invalid.
  • Please note, the Advance ticket refund policy hasn't changed, however, you can exchange Advance tickets for a voucher to use for a future journey. To request this, contact our Customer Relations by 6pm on the day before the departure of the first booked service on your ticket. These are delivered via post as paper Rail Travel Vouchers so it's best you leave plenty of time for the vouchers to arrive before your next planned journey.
