Train operator Greater Anglia is advising football fans to plan ahead and allow extra time for their journeys ahead of the Norwich v Ipswich derby on Saturday 6 April, especially given industrial action taking place that day.
Additional services will run before and after the match:
- 10.50 Ipswich to Norwich (calling Stowmarket 11.02) due to arrive in Norwich at 11.35 – this is the last train from Ipswich scheduled to arrive before kick-off
- 15.09 Norwich to Ipswich (calling Stowmarket 15.34) due to arrive in Ipswich at 15.46
- 15.24 Norwich to Ipswich (calling Stowmarket 15.53) due to arrive in Ipswich at 16.05
However, fans from both clubs are advised that as a result of action short of a strike by members of the train drivers’ union ASLEF, there may be some cancellations affecting all Greater Anglia routes on that date.
Anyone travelling to the game is therefore advised to both check before they travel and travel early on the day to ensure they arrive at the game in good time.
Ipswich Town fans are advised that the additional 10.50 Ipswich to Norwich service will be the last one arriving in Norwich before kick-off, as the 11.06 service from Ipswich will be cancelled as a result of the industrial action.
All fans are also advised that train services are expected to be very busy immediately after the game. Everything possible will be done to get everyone on their way as quickly as possible, with services later in the afternoon likely to have more seats available.
The industrial action also means it will not be possible to run extra services beyond those highlighted above, so where additional services would otherwise have been provided on routes such as the Norwich to Cambridge line, unfortunately this will not be possible on this occasion.
Customers are advised to check nearer the time for any short notice changes to the timetable.

“We’ve worked closely with both football clubs and the British Transport Police, and people are advised to check before they travel and travel earlier or later if they can.
“We will run as many services as we can, given the action short of a strike, with a plan that is intended to ensure everyone has a safe and smooth journey.
“To save time and beat the queues, passengers are advised to buy tickets online or via the Greater Anglia app before they travel. Groups of three of more people can save a third on fares with GroupSave.
“We would ask everyone to be patient while boarding, as we are expecting much higher than usual passenger numbers on some of the services before and after the game.”
