Abellio Greater Anglia is supporting Armed Forces Day on Saturday 24 June with free travel on the day for active service personnel and veterans and the unveiling of three new waiting rooms decorated with a ‘poppy’ theme.

Norwich, Ipswich and Chelmsford waiting rooms have recently been refurbished and each feature a poppy-themed wall mural and a ceramic poppy from the Tower of London’s ‘Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red’ art installation by Paul Cummins which marked 100 years since the first full day of Britain’s involvement in the First World War. Each poppy represented a British military fatality during the war.

Service personnel and veterans will have the freedom of the Abellio Greater Anglia network all day on Saturday 25th June and collections will also take place at stations around the network for the Royal British Legion.

Abellio Greater Anglia’s Asset Management Director, Simone Bailey, said, “We are pleased to show our support for all those who serve or have served in the forces with free travel on Armed Forces Day, but also, as a more permanent and poignant reminder of the huge sacrifices made in the defence of the country, with the unveiling of our three poppy-themed waiting rooms. To everyone who serves, or has served, the rail industry salutes you.”
